Physics TSST - Day 1

18 February 2019 09 AM Notre Dame High School, Fulwood Road, Sheffield S10 3BT trainers:Mr T Clark Audience:People who are already teaching, but who are not Physics Specialists

The Physics TSST course is aimed at people who are already teaching, but who are not necessarily Physics Specialists for example someone who:

  • is teaching physics as a non-specialist (eg a chemist or biologist)
  • has had a break from teaching physics
  • works in a special school or PRU where students don't always sit GCSEs
  • is a recently qualified teacher who wants to improve their subject knowledge.

The course consists of whole day and twilight sessions that will focus on subject knowledge and pedagogy ie how best to teach a topic. The sessions will be based on the needs of the cohort so there will be a subject knowledge audit prior to everyone starting the course. In the past the sessions have covered things like:

  • Energy
  • Forces
  • Electric circuits
  • Waves

Sessions have also been held on things like the required practicals, new GCSE questions and how they differ from pre 2017 and  common misconceptions in physics and preparing to teach A-level Physics.

In addition, there will be a morning of the delegates observing physics lessons and individual mentoring.
